The Yu Yureka Black marks the comeback of Micromax's sub brand Yu into the Indian smartphone market. The company last launched a smartphone in August 2016 and is betting big on the Yureka Black to make up for lost time.
Since 2015, Yu has sold more than 3 million handsets. Going forward, the company claims they will be committed to a customised OS, a unique design language and online domination. The smartphone is a re-imagination of 2014's Yu Yureka and features a striking black design, updated specifications and new features.
At Rs 8,999, the Yureka Black finds itself in an incredibly competitive segment dominated by the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi 4 and Redmi 3S Prime.
Specifications
The phone's specifications are pretty impressive for the price. It is powered by the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor paired with 4GB of RAM and the Adreno 505 GPU. It comes with a 5-inch Full HD IPS LCD display with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top.
Additionally, the device comes with a sizeable 3,000mAh battery, 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded via a microSD card (of upto 128GB) and Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box.
In comparison, the smartphone's primary competitor, the Xiaomi Redmi 4 features the Snapdragon 425 processor, a 5-inch 2.5D 720p HD display, 2/3/4GB of RAM and 16/32/64GB of internal storage depending on the variant.
On the imaging front, the Yureka Black comes with a 13MP rear camera with a Sony IMX258 sensor, an aperture of f/2.0 and a dual LED flash alongside an 8MP front camera.
The front camera also comes with a (single) LED flash, which will appeal to those looking for a selfie focused handset in this price range.
The Yu Yureka Black supports 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. It features a microUSB port for charging and data transfer and comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack which is fast becoming a rarity in today's times.
Sensors found on the Yu Yureka Black include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor as well as a proximity sensor.
The smartphone comes with a pretty nifty feature that allows users to draw gestures like O for the camera and M for the music on the lockscreen. Additionally, you can also draw the gestures by pulling down from the top right corner of the screen. The smartphone also comes with a one handed mode for better user experience.
The smartphone will follow an online-only model of distribution and will be sold exclusively via Flipkart. The smartphone will be available in two color variants - namely Chrome Black and Matte Black and will go on sale starting 12:00 am on June 6.
